The first edition of this book was made in December 1968. The graphic presentation and the illustrations received many prestigious awards as: the Gold Medal for graphic presentation, the Award for Book Illustration at "The Most Beautiful Books of the Year" National Competition, granted by The Culture and Socialist Education Committee (Bucharest, 1969), the Honor Distinction for the best wide distribution book at the "L'Aigle d'or pour le meilleur livre" Contest (Nice, 1969), the Bronze Medal at The Annual World's Most Beautiful Books Contest (Leipzig, 1969), First Prize at the International Book Exhibition (Moscow, 1970), the Gold Medal at the World's Most Beautiful Children's Books Contest in the International Book Art Exhibition I.B.A. – Internationale Buchkunst Ausstellung – (Leipzig, 1971).
A part of the work's original drawings can be found at the  Art Museum of the Socialist Republic of Romania, the Prints Cabinet (40 illustrations) and the Leningrad Hermitage Museum (5 illustrations).
