Aviația Sportivă (Sport Aviation) 1950-1954
Dan Tudoroiu collection
A monthly magazine about civil aviation, Aviația Sportivă (1950-1954) was previously known as Aviația (1948-1949), before changing its name, in 1955, to Aripile Patriei ("Wings of the Fatherland"). The magazine’s many name changes reflected the different institutions to which the communist regime subordinated the activities of gliding, aero clubs and civil aviation. Between 1950 and 1953 sports aviation fell under the Central Commission of Sports Aviation, from where the magazine took its name, only for these activities to be taken over, in 1954, by the Voluntary Association in Support of the Defence of the Fatherland, which, in 1955, changed the magazine’s name to Aripile Patriei.
